Ραγάδες και σημάδια: πώς το microneedling βοηθά το δέρμα να ανανεωθεί

Stretch marks and scars: how microneedling helps the skin rejuvenate

Stretch marks and body scars are something I see very often in my practice, and I know well how much they can affect a woman's self-image. Especially after a pregnancy or after intense weight fluctuations, many women feel that their skin has changed suddenly and does not easily return to its former state.

Through my experience, I have worked with many women who faced intense stretch marks on the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks, and what I saw again and again is that with the right protocol, patience, and consistency, we can gradually soften them significantly, improve skin texture, and give it a smoother and firmer appearance.

What exactly are stretch marks?

Stretch marks are not just a superficial mark. They are essentially small scars that form when the skin stretches rapidly, and the collagen and elastin fibers do not have time to adapt.

That's why they often appear:

  • after pregnancy
  • during periods of sudden weight gain or loss
  • in adolescence
  • in areas where the skin undergoes intense stretching

Initially, they may be redder or purple and over time become white and more atrophic. The older they are, the more demanding the therapeutic approach becomes — but not impossible.

How do mesotherapy and controlled micro-injury help?

One of the most important tools we use to improve stretch marks and scars is controlled micro-injury, as achieved with microneedling / dermapen techniques.

The logic of the treatment is very specific: we create microscopic, controlled irritations on the skin to "awaken" its natural regeneration mechanisms. The skin is activated, initiates repair processes, and over time produces new collagen and elastin.

This means that gradually:

  • the texture of the area improves
  • the skin surface is smoothed
  • the visibility of stretch marks is reduced
  • the skin appears firmer and more even

When the treatment is combined with mesotherapy, the results become even more targeted. Through the micro-channels created, active ingredients can penetrate better and support regeneration more deeply.

Why body treatment often requires a more intensive approach

At this point, I want to emphasize something very important: when we talk about mesotherapy and microneedling on the body, the intensity of the treatment often needs to be stronger, always, of course, with proper judgment, proper technique, and according to the tolerance and needs of each skin type.

The reason is that body skin is thicker and more "resistant" compared to facial skin. To achieve more immediate and substantial results for stretch marks, unevenness, and scars, a stronger stimulation is usually required. This helps not only in reducing stretch marks but also in overall sculpting, smoothing, and improving the appearance of the area.

In simple terms: when the protocol is done correctly, the body responds better to a more substantial stimulation than to a very superficial, "mild" application that often isn't enough to deliver the desired result.

Of course, this does not mean exaggeration or aggressive application without control. The correct intensity is chosen by a professional, based on:

  • the body area
  • the depth and age of the stretch marks
  • the skin quality
  • the individual's medical history

The role of mesotherapy in regeneration

Mesotherapy significantly enhances the process because it provides the skin with substances that help it regenerate more effectively. Depending on the needs of the area, ingredients can be used that target:

  • regeneration
  • hydration
  • improving elasticity
  • supporting healing and cellular function

In practice, this translates into skin that:

  • acquires better density
  • appears smoother
  • has a more even appearance
  • responds better from session to session

What I've seen through my experience

Many times I have seen women come in disappointed, especially after pregnancy, saying that they feel their abdomen will never recover or that stretch marks have completely "ruined" their body image. The same happens in cases of large weight fluctuations, where the skin has undergone significant stretching and has lost its smooth texture.

With proper assessment and persistence, we gradually saw areas that initially had intense, visible stretch marks become milder, more "faded" and noticeably smoother to the touch and appearance. This is something that is of great value to me, because it doesn't only concern the skin's appearance — it also concerns the woman's self-confidence, who begins to see her body with greater comfort again.

How many sessions are needed?

Stretch marks and scars don't disappear overnight. Because we are talking about structural skin damage, a series of sessions and consistency are required.

The number of sessions depends on:

  • how old the stretch marks are
  • their depth
  • the area
  • the skin's response

Usually, a protocol of repetitions is needed to see a substantial change, with gradual improvement from session to session. In many cases, the goal is not necessarily complete disappearance, but the maximum possible reduction, noticeable smoothing, and significant improvement in the overall appearance of the skin.

What one needs to know before starting

It is important to have a realistic approach. Stretch marks are marks that require time, proper technique, and repetition. However, when the treatment is applied correctly, the improvement can be truly impressive.

The most important thing is:

  • to have a proper assessment of the area
  • to choose the appropriate protocol
  • to maintain the frequency of sessions
  • to follow proper home care
